Svetlyo Kantardjiev – a publisher in Bulgaria
In Bulgaria to be a publisher is not an attractive and exciting job because of the financial aspect: in recent years, citizens in that country have read less. The same tendency could be noted in most parts of the world. Reasons are really numerous but it is not the highlight in my text today.
Somehow, there are still few people in Bulgaria who look after the treasure of the books. One of them is Svetlyo Kantardjiev who is the main doer in publishing and distributing great titles such as Tales of The Unexpected, Magical Treasure of The World, My Childhood: Fairy Tales in Pictures, Spetsnaz Alpha – My Destiny and others.
I am impressed by Mr Kantardjiev, finding out that he is a kind of multi-functional intellectual. In other words, he can work as Napoleon Bonaparte who was able to do parallelly several things. Kantardjiev is a publisher, collector, grantor, presenter, political scientist, marketer etc. In an interview he shared with audience that books are ‘priceless treasure’ and people should not avoid them, explaining how the global world of today is dynamic and spare time is never enough.
I completely agree with that statement! In addition, it is difficult to be a publisher in Bulgaria exactly because of people`s attitude.
In conclusion, I would like to share one of my favorite phrases: ‘There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these reaches every day of your life.’
